Ocean Safari from the V&A Waterfront – Get up close to Cape Town’s marine life

Embark on a captivating Ocean Safari along Cape Town’s Atlantic coast. This approximately 1.5-hour tour offers you the unique opportunity to experience dolphins, whales, penguins, seals, and sometimes even sunfish (Mola mola) in their natural habitat – up close. The safari is led by passionate marine biologists who share their enthusiasm and knowledge with you in an impressive way. The experience takes place in an open, motorized inflatable boat (RIB), which brings you right to the water’s edge, allowing for an exceptionally immersive nature experience. Because the boat is small, it is agile and can react quickly to sightings. However, the well-being of marine life is always paramount, and all regulations are strictly observed. A particular focus of the operator is marine conservation: African Ocean Safaris collaborates with the “Ocean’s in Motion Mobile Aquarium” Foundation, which is dedicated to ocean education and protection. With every booking, a schoolchild in Cape Town is supported, enabling them to participate in an educational program about ocean life. This way, you can combine your adventure with a meaningful contribution to the future.

Tours depart at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM and last approximately 1.5 hours. Please arrive at the ticket counter 15 minutes before departure. There, you will receive a safety briefing and a life jacket if needed. Upon returning, the tour ends back at the Waterfront – perfect for a leisurely stroll before or after your excursion. The ticket counter is located at the V&A Waterfront, directly on the quay next to the African Trading Post, on the opposite side of the floating bridge from the Clock Tower.

The tour is suitable for anyone seeking an exciting and educational nature experience. Please note that the trip takes place in an open inflatable boat – participation is not recommended for people with back problems or children under 3 years old. Please bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a windbreaker if needed. Bags and valuables can be safely stored during the tour.
