Privates Big 5 Game Reserve Amakhala

Feel the heartbeat and rhythm of Africa during your Big 5 safari adventure in the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve. The game drive begins in the Leeuwenbosch Reserve, part of Amakhala and an ideal starting point for your game drive.

The rangers look forward to taking you closer to the incredible biodiversity in open Land Rovers! Reconnect with nature and immerse yourself in the rich wildlife, diverse vegetation, and dramatic landscapes of the Eastern Cape.

The reserve covers 18,000 hectares and provides habitat for a wide variety of African wildlife. Lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, monkeys, tortoises, and numerous antelope species call this place home.

Observe world-famous African animals up close in their natural habitat. The game drives focus not only on the majestic Big Five, but also on smaller mammals, birds, and insects that complete Africa’s fascinating wildlife.

Amakhala is home to five of South Africa’s seven biomes, from bushland to savannah landscapes, making its flora and fauna exceptionally diverse.

Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the gate (near the port exit). After approximately a one-hour transfer, you will reach the reserve. There, after a welcome drink, you will board open safari vehicles for a game drive from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Afterward, you will have lunch at the reserve. You will then be taken back to the ship, arriving around 3:00/3:30 p.m.

While a Big Five sighting cannot be guaranteed, the probability is very high. The game rangers are English-speaking.
If we can fill a vehicle with a total of 9 people, no additional guests from the reserve will be added, and children under 6 years old can also participate.
Children under 2 years old are free of charge, provided they have a seat Lunch, drinks, transfers, and conservation fees are included.

The safari takes place in open jeeps which can accommodate a maximum of 10 people: 1 person next to the driver, 9 people in the back.
